Small-Batch Carry

Tote Bags

The Daybreak is our tote: a roomy grid-check ripstop bag finished with hand-strung cord fringe and eyelet detailing, made in small batches in India. It is the most decorative thing we make, and the least technical — an everyday carry-all rather than a gear bag.

What a ripstop tote is good for

Totes earn their place by being fast. No zips to open, no straps to adjust, no compartments to think about — you drop things in and go. The trade-off is that nothing inside is protected or organised, so a tote is the wrong bag for a camera unless you pair it with a padded pouch.

Ripstop makes a better tote than canvas for daily use in India: it weighs less, it does not hold water, and a snag stops at the nearest grid line instead of running. The cord fringe and eyelets are the part that has nothing to do with function — they are there because we wanted to make something that looked like this.

Common questions

What are the dimensions?

34.3 cm wide × 29.2 cm high, in a flat, unstructured shape that expands to what you put in it.

Can I carry a camera in it?

Not on its own — there is no padding. Drop a Point & Shoot camera pouch inside and you have a protected cell within an open bag.

Is it water-resistant?

The fabric is, but a tote is open at the top, so treat it as rain-resistant rather than rain-proof.

Where is it made?

In India, in small batches.

Small-batch bags cut from 210D ripstop nylon & recycled polyester. Designed for travellers, photographers, and the generally creative.
