Sling or waist pack?
A sling sits diagonally across your back and swings round to the front when you need it. That single motion is why people carrying a camera prefer them: you can reach it without taking the bag off. The trade-off is bulk — a sling sits proud of your body, and on a packed metro you'll feel it.
A waist pack sits tighter and carries less. It's the better choice when you're moving through crowds, riding a two-wheeler, or want something you can wear at the front and forget about.
Neither bag is padded. Both will take a compact or point-and-shoot camera; neither will protect a lens or a mirrorless body. If that's what you're carrying, look at the Memento, or drop a Point & Shoot pouch inside.

Are these bags water-resistant or waterproof?
Water-resistant. The PU-coated ripstop handles rain and spray, but neither bag is submersible and the zips are not sealed.
Are they padded?
No. Both are unpadded. They carry a compact camera fine, but for a lens or a mirrorless body use the Memento camera bag or a Point & Shoot pouch.
Which parts are recycled?
The 500D polyester is recycled. The 210D ripstop nylon is not.
Can I wear the Detour crossbody?
Yes — the strap adjusts to wear it at the waist, across the chest, or crossbody at the front, which is what most people do on a two-wheeler or in a crowd.
